This seminar will review how sustainability is creating new opportunities for companies, whilst at the same time benefiting society. With new initiatives being rolled out following the COP 21 forum in Paris and the publication of China’s 13th 5-year plan, what are the implications for companies’ business strategy? Are companies adequately prepared to cope with potential issues and grasp the opportunities arising from sustainability? This event will also showcase different case studies on how corporations have managed to align their business strategy with sustainability objectives to create value.

Coleman is the Director of KPMG Business Reporting and Sustainability.  He has over 20 years’ experience in sustainability consulting sector providing services to both public and private sectors, in particular of climate change study and due-diligence audit.  In addition, he has project-managed considerable energy-cum-carbon audits for various buildings and infrastructure projects.  Different audit protocols have been developed in order to suit unique characteristics of the buildings and infrastructures.  Furthermore, he has solid experience on design and construction management of various environmental pollution control facilities such as wastewater treatment, air abatement, noise mitigation, hazardous waste treatment / disposal, etc.  He is a Chartered Engineer in environmental, mechanical and electrical disciplines so he is familiar with translating engineering terms to financial values for executive communication.

Pat is a Principal of Strategic Development at KPMG who oversees Corporate Social Responsibility as well as being a core member of the KPMG China Steering Committee on Climate Change & Sustainability (“CC&S”).  He is also a member of the KPMG Global CC&S network. He has been active for over 7 years in the field of sustainable development in his previous capacity as a director at Central Textiles. Through his leadership Central Textiles was the first textile company in Asia to issue a Sustainability Report under the Global Reporting Initiatives (“GRI”) Guidelines in 2008. The report subsequently received  an award from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (“ACCA”). Through his initiatives Central Textiles subsequently won the Gold Award for the Hang Seng Pearl River Delta Environmental Award in 2012 and the Hong Kong Award for Environmental Excellence – Manufacturing Sector in 2013. For his contribution to the textile industry with regards to sustainability, Pat received the Young Industrialist of the Year award from the Federation of Hong Kong Industries in 2009. Pat currently serves on the United Nations Economic & Social Commission for Asia Pacific (UNESCAP) on their Sustainable Business Network Task Force on Banking and finance. He was also previously the founder and Chairman of the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium, which he continues to sit in the executive committee to push the sustainability agenda in the textile and apparel industry.
